Editing Process in ISO 17100 Standard

ISO 17100 is a certificate that companies must have in order to improve the quality of translation. This standard requires translators, editors, and proofreaders to have sufficient knowledge and skills to produce quality texts.

Check: The translator makes a self-revision of the translated text in terms of semantics, grammar, spelling, punctuation, style, and formatting.

Revision: The reviser, other than the translator, compares the source and target texts, looks at the text from a broader perspective, and examines the translation for conformity with the style guide and terminology.

Review: At this stage, domain accuracy and text type rules are evaluated to check whether the translation is appropriate for the target language and the target audience.

Proofreading: A comprehensive examination of the target language is carried out; spelling errors, grammar, and formatting problems are eliminated. The aim is to deliver the text to the client completely free of errors.
