Decathlon Production Requirements (DPR) manual was translated from English into Turkish. Since this was a comprehensive project and the manual was intended to be used as training material for Textile staff in the form of PowerPoint presentations, the PDF file was converted into a 3-part PowerPoint presentation and partial delivery was requested by the client.
CHALLENGES
- This manual contains the entire textile production process step by step from sampling to final control & storage and gives instructions on each process step in a descriptive and informative manner supplemented by illustrations. The intended purpose of such instructions must be considered accordingly.
- The manual contains comprehensive terminology on industrial textile production.
- Various references are made to other process steps throughout the manual, which require full review of the entire manual even though partial delivery was requested. In addition, although this manual is mainly about textile production, it also contains references to other departments and functions as well as their individual procedures.
- The manual also contains instructions on equipment & machinery used in production, which require knowledge about technical specifications and operation of such machinery.
- In addition, the manual contains references to some legal requirements such as checking baby products via a metal detector to avoid any broken needles left in the garment. Becoming familiar with such legal requirements is also necessary to give the right context in the target text.
SOLUTIONS
- Each process step contained in all 3 parts of the manual was reviewed in detail and cross-references were made to ensure consistency through all 3 parts of the target text without any deviation from the context despite different deadlines.
- Terminology on textile production, machinery & equipment as well as other systems and methods used in this scope was reviewed in detail and a custom glossary was created.
