Customer Name: CHT Turkey

Customer Sector: Chemical Manufacturing

Within the scope of this project, our assignment was to translate an Energy and Sustainability Report from Turkish into English as published by CHT Turkey Energy Board which also serves as a progress and development model as well as a call for action for a more sustainable future.

CHALLENGES

  • Due to the dual function of the report, it contains factual information illustrated by various charts and analytical data as well as reporting on various activities carried out for more efficient use of energy. Therefore, aspects on factual and narrative levels should be combined to create a coherent target text as a formal report.
  • Similar to the tone set in the Executive Summary, the report is structured in a professional manner with the tools of corporate communication to provide information on CSR and sustainability to stakeholders as well as reporting to the authorities. These aspects should be considered and corporate values, mottos, and other cultural characteristics of the company must be observed.
  • The data contained in the report are presented in the form of spreadsheets, which contain lots of figures. The correct numbering formats and general rules on formatting numbers and data must be observed while avoiding any typographical error.
  • The second part of the report contains various energy intensity charts with footnotes that contain technical data in which correct terminology must be used for reliable reporting.

SOLUTIONS

  • Facts and figures in the form of technical data are provided on a factual level while information about energy-saving activities and sustainability actions is provided by using informative and descriptive language consistent with the objective of the source text to report on these outcomes and activities of the company during the activity year.
  • Particular attention was given to using language and style consistent with the communication strategies of the company for external reporting. For this purpose, corporate values and information on energy-saving efforts were introduced in line with the content from reference documents such as energy bulletins, annual activity reports, and the corporate roadmap.
  • Footnotes under the charts were reviewed and the relevant terminology was used accurately.

BENEFITS
